So Many Stories To tell

I first met Denis aged 14 when he came over to Dublin to play in the Irish Tennis Tournaments. We immediately struck up a friendship that would take us all over the world. Back in '82 '83 Denis and I went to the USA on a Tennis Scholarship to Gadsden State Junior College in Alabama. After a year Denis Transferred to UAB and I went to Shorter College in Georgia. We used to meet up as often as possible in Birmingham, AL. One night we were having a few beers and shooting some pool in the local Irish bar when I mentioned to Denis that my younger brother Owen who was a very good junior player wanted to come over to the states on a Tennis Scholarship. After some talk Denis said we need to go to South Carolina and talk to Jim Boykin the Head Coach at Anderson Junior College, Denis Played 1 year at Anderson and they finished top in the Nation. So I said great, when will we go and he said It's 1 am right now, so if we drive all night we could be there for 7 am Practice in the morning and meet the coach and players. Anderson was 6 hours away back then. There were no mobiles sat navs etc. Great, Late Night Road Trip.... So we drove all night, got some breakfast in a Mc D's and rocked up to the courts and waited, and waited, and waited, Turned out the Men's team was away on a 4 day road trip in Florida. So we got in the car and drove 6 hours back to Alabama. Then there was the time we drove 16 hrs to Miami Florida to watch Michael Nugent and Owen Casey play in the Sunshine Cup and Orange Bowl Denis was always willing to help if he could, regardless of what he had to do. He was a great friend back then and I have so so many fond memories of so many events we experienced together on our travels as teenagers and young men. WE HAD A BLAST, believe me when I say, DENIS lived life to the MAX, every second of every day. Ill miss you My Friend, We will finish off that match on a Grass Court in Heaven I finally figured out how I might beat you and that Top Spin Forehand that freaked so many Irish Players Out Paul Casey
